Pro Class Created, Super Squad Is Now Pro Squad

NSCA announces a program name change for the 2024 Pro Squad, formerly known as the Super Squad, for the 2024 National Sporting Clays Championship, and the creation of a Pro Class for Regional, U.S. Open, and National Championship events. The NSCA Executive Council voted in January to change the name from Super Squad to Pro Squad to align with a new classification of shooters that will start at the 2024 National Sporting Clays Championship and continue with the 2025 Regional Championships, U.S. Open, and National Championship. All shooters who have qualified for that year’s Pro Squad will be classified as Pro Class for all 12-gauge 100-bird events at these Championships, with separate payouts and awards equal to those for all other classes. For the purpose of awarding punches and recognition team points, the Pro Class shooters will still be considered in their current NSCA class. The 2024 National Championship will have Pro Class for the Main Event only. More details will be announced in the near future as they are finalized by the NSCA Executive Council.

During this year’s National Championship, each Pro Squad will consist of five shooters: four qualifying shooters squadded randomly and a fifth spot that will be auctioned off to interested participants. As in the past two years, proceeds from the auction will be split between an increased prize purse and for the USA Sporting Clays Teams.

The squads will be randomly squadded during the U.S. Open at Northbrook Sports Club using the same method used the past two years. Once the squads have been established, the auction will open the following week.

Pro Squad Shooters will begin shooting the Main Event on Thursday, October 24 at 8 a.m. and end with the final 3:30 p.m. rotation on Sunday, October 27. Both men and women will shoot the same course at the same time each day.

The Pro Squad rotation was created to recognize shooters who have demonstrated the ability to be in contention for an elite ranking at the National Championship. For 2024, the qualification criteria was kept the same as in the past. However, the NSCA EC did slightly adjust the criteria for 2025 by cutting down how far back to go with past years’ National Champions, from 10 years to just five.
